Uwezo Uplift Foundation was founded in 2006 by its current director, Roselyn Nangila. It started in a German Mission in Kenya known as Die Gute Nachricht für Africa (DIGUNA), which is a German phrase meaning "The Good News for Africa."
Being familiar with slum life, the poor living conditions, cycles of abuse and rejection, gangsterism, violence, and crime, Roselyn was moved by what she had seen and experienced. A fresh vision to see children's lives transformed filled her. She began developing what would become the heartbeat of The Uwezo Uplift Foundation, striving to reach out to the poor children in the slums with the gospel and educational support.
During this time, she worked as a volunteer evangelist in schools and later as a radio presenter with Bibilia Husema Station affiliated with DIGUNA. By the time she started the foundation, she was earning sh1500 (15 euros) as pocket money, from which she set aside sh500 (0.5 euros) to help the poor, laying the foundation for the organization.
